Example No. 1: When air travel began to take over as the "best" way to get from point "A" to point "B", the railroad industry started to collapse. The cross country, luxury passenger trains began to fade from the scene. Air freight services began to take its toll on the rail freight business. In short, the railroads almost gave up. Finally, someone came up with some ideas. Not everyone is comfortable flying. Not only that, when they get to their destination, what do they do for transportation? The AutoTrain was born, not to take over the airline traffic, but to meet the challenge and capture a different audience. When air freight service almost "killed" rail freight on many items, the railroad industry finally came up with the "piggyback" concept. Now semi trailers could be loaded at the factory, loaded on flat bed freight cars, and rolled off at their destination. No more loading and unloading of freight twice. (Of course, they no doubt got the idea from the airline industry who devised containerized freight to make loading of aircraft fast and easy). They will never stop the airline traffic, but they were able to establish a market in spite of it.

Example No. 2: When television first became a nationwide craze, it took over the nation's viewing habits. The movie industry pretty much threw up it's hands and decided the industry was doomed. Instead, they finally realized that the movie industry was NOT doomed. In fact, it opened up a whole new industry...movies made for television. And, over the years, the movies made for theaters have made a comeback, once the initial craze for TV wore off.

What does all of this have to do with you and FSBOs? Our real estate industry has always been faced with sellers and buyers who want to save the commission by doing it themselves. We are never going to stop that. We cannot stop the companies who thrive on helping them by listing FSBOs. Those companies are successful because they saw a need or trend and capitalized on it. To be successful, do the opposite of what your competition is doing. That is exactly what this web site does, with a different twist.
